Mary do not be afraid; you have won God’s favour. Listen! You will conceive and bear a son and he will be called the Son of God. The Mary said to the Angel, “But how can this be’ and the Angel replied "For nothing is impossible to God"
Luke 130-32 and 37
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Thank you to all the parents who attended the Christmas Concert in The Lindsay Walker Centre on Monday evening. It was a wonderfully fun and entertaining way to formally embrace the Christmas season. With over 300 students and 30 staff directly involved in the evening it was a fantastic celebration and showcase of College talent. Congratulations to all the students who were involved in performances on the night and to the wonderful group of teachers who helped plan the event and prepare the students. I was delighted to see the huge amount of goods that were donated to create hampers for the Anglicare Appeal. We also raised over $500 on the night and this will also be donated to Anglicare for their Christmas Appeal.
Congratulations also go to the Kindergarten students who participated in their Christmas pageant and Graduation service this week. The students have been rehearsing feverishly to prepare for the performance and it was simply fantastic. Thanks also to Mrs Kelvin and Mrs Smith and their many helpers for all of the planning. It was a delightful celebration.
Sadly as we come to the end of another year, we have a number of teaching staff departing and heading off to new and exciting opportunities. I am sure you join with me in saying 'thank you' for their contribution and wishing them well in the next part of their professional journey:
- Ms Lee Boyd has been appointed Deputy Principal at Kyogle High School
- Ms Sue Brendish is returning to Sydney and will take on a role at Rouse Anglican College
- Ms Kelly Twyford is moving to Palm Beach Currumbin High on the Gold Coast
- Ms Eva Brown is taking some time for renewal and travel
- Mr Joel Jukes is taking on a role at Xavier Catholic College
- Ms Cassie Uretir is saying goodbye to the ELC and going to work at Lismore South Public School
- Ms Jaymin Melling has concluded her contract but I am sure will continue to be a regular face around the College undertaking casual work
We wish all of these wonderful people much satisfaction, happiness and success.

Principal
OFF THE DEPUTY'S DESK
The school year at EAC is certainly ending with a bang if this week is anything to go by. The Christmas Concert on Monday night saw The Lindsay Walker Centre filled with families entertained by the College bands as well as having a visit from Santa to see who was being naughty and nice. Once again, the College community came together to celebrate a special moment in the school's calendar.
Then it was off to camp for the Year 6 students as they left for four days of adventure including spending time camping on K’gari (Fraser Island).
Year 11 hospitality students rounded off their year with a work placement giving them a terrific opportunity to put their skills to good use in local businesses. It is great to see them developing the social emotional skills in the workplace to equip them for life after school.
With Picnic Days and Award Presentations still to come no doubt the students, teachers and families will be looking forward to a well-deserved rest over the summer break.
May you all have a safe and happy time with family and loved ones. I look forward to catching up with you again in the New Year.

EAC take out the Cricket
EAC turned up to Lismore this week to take on the Catholic schools in cricket. The weather was overcast and windy - perfect for some swing bowling.
Woodlawn batted first and got off to a strong start. EAC slowed down the run rate in the last 10 overs to leave Woodlawn 3/189 after their 20 overs. We started batting strong with a few quick boundaries off the first over but would eventually be all out for 79.
Next up we took on St Mary's. St Mary's won the toss and elected to Bat. Due to time constraints, the game was reduced to 12 overs each. Robbie Mumford put on a masterclass with his 2 overs going for 4/6 and narrowly missing a hat trick. After 12 overs St Mary's were 6/96. Enter Jack Whitaker at the top of the order, picking off the bowling on his way to an unbeaten 54. EAC victors after chasing down St Mary's score in just 9 overs.
A huge thank you to all the boys who played and made the day so enjoyable as well as Ms Finlay who joined us and learnt how to score!

Thank You 2022 Library Monitors!
Our 2022 Library Monitors from Year 5 have been an outstanding group right from the very start. These students have taken great pride in their work and delivered on their responsibilities wonderfully well.
To cap off their duties for the year, our Monitors were given the task of operating the Scholastic Book Fair in the Library which has been a great success.
The Monitors set up the Fair much like a 'pop up shop' and have monitored stock, given great customer service and created brilliant displays. This will prove excellent experience for their future lives beyond the College.
Thanks to the efforts of our Monitors and the support from the College community, together we have qualified for more than $1,000 in Scholastic books, stationery and learning support materials. These resources will benefit our entire College from the Early Learning Centre right the way through to our HSC Students.
'Thank you' Library Monitors, for your wonderful work this year. I am so very proud of each and every one of you.

Space Slime a hit with Students
On Wednesday 23 November, Year 9 and 10 Information and Software Technology (IST) students left for SAE Creative Media Institute with Mr Conomos and Ms Finlay. EAC was the first to have an experience day there since the pandemic and the instructors at SAE were trying out a new video game course for high school students.
We arrived and met up in a lecture room on campus. Our task was to make a collaborative game so we started a team brainstorming session. We settled on the idea of a sewer space slime game. Everyone was allocated to a group to create different aspects of the game which were Level Design, Sound Design, Character Animation and Graphics Creation.
The groups moved to different parts of the campus to start working. We didn’t have any connection with the other groups, so much of the sound, design, and animation was contrasting. This only made the game more interesting to look at and experience.
The sound group worked on different sound effects for our slime character and the interactions with the world. They made dripping sounds, sludgy sounds, laser sounds, and many more interesting additions. They made the sounds using everyday objects around them, such as bicycle wheels and kitchen whisks for example and they then distorted the sounds with computer software.
The character animation group made the slime character out of plasticine and gave it life and movement using stop motion and claymation animation techniques. They made slime animation of idle, walking and flying animations to bring him to life.
The graphics creation team created the game's assets, such as platforms, coins, and the background. They created some of them using pixel art techniques and found some royalty free images online and edited them together using Adobe Photoshop.
Finally the level design team made the overall layout of the level. They decided upon the position and placements of the platforms, portals, gems and doors in the game. They sketched down their ideas on paper first and discussed the game mechanics to come up with their level.
Without any team, the game wouldn’t have come together so quickly, and we wouldn’t have finished. We owe all of this to the instructors at SAE as they helped us learn and they were with us every step of the way. Even now, the SAE instructors are taking the time to finish off the game, and fix up any bugs, so it is playable for everyone. It was an eye opening learning experience at SAE, and the instructors were amazing! We hope that everyone will get the chance to play the game we have come together to create!
A huge thank you to all the helpers and instructors at SAE! Thank you for having us!

Tiny Home, Big Potential
The students of Year 7 have done a fantastic job of building their sustainable tiny homes. The project focused on reasons to live in a tiny house including land and carbon footprints and affordability. They moved onto mathematical and technology outcomes with scaled drawing and an iterative design process.
The houses were built out of recycled cardboard boxes instead of corflute and students had to think creatively to utilise this tricky building material. Students collected recycled and upcycled materials to build their tiny home and came up with some innovative uses of materials. They learnt to safely use a craft knife and built stable and solid structures that included natural light, scaled interiors and features such as solar panels and water tanks.
Many students put in a fabulous effort, taking their houses home to finish them to a high standard with innovative multi use features and well designed interiors. Creative adverts and videos were also produced showing great imagination and enthusiasm. Well done Year 7!
