This week, our Year 6 students were fortunate to welcome Angie and Sarah, the passionate Sustainability Managers from local business Spell.
As part of our Experiential Learning unit on Fast Fashion, students heard firsthand how Spell is leading the way in ethical fashion — from choosing responsible suppliers and sustainable materials to using technology and innovative techniques to reduce waste; maintaining transparency with consumers and giving back to the community.
Their insights helped bring our classroom learning to life and empowered our students to think critically about the clothes we wear and the choices we make. A big congratulations to the three lucky students who won a Spell prize pack!
We are so grateful for Angie and Sarah’s time and commitment to sustainability — thank you for helping to inspire the next generation of changemakers.

🐟 Year 9 Marine Studies Fishing Excursion – Reeling in Knowledge!
Our Year 9 Marine Studies students recently ventured out for a fishing excursion on the Ballina River. Despite the recent heavy rainfall and the river’s muddy brown hue, students remained enthusiastic and were rewarded with many catches, including catfish and bream.
The highlight of the day was Ryan L-P’s impressive 38cm bream, which earned him bragging rights as the catch of the day!
Importantly, all fish were carefully released alive after capture, in line with our commitment to sustainable fishing practices and marine conservation. Students demonstrated excellent care and respect for the local aquatic environment while applying their knowledge of estuarine ecosystems and ethical angling.
A valuable day of hands-on learning, teamwork and muddy fun on the river!
