From The Principal
We had some wonderful news regarding our HSC students this week. Each year the very best of the HSC major works are selected to appear in the highly celebrated HSC showcase events to both celebrate the talent and work of the students as well as provide future students with exemplar projects from which to draw ideas and inspiration. This year we have two students whose works have been selected for such events. Congratulations to Zev Donavan for selection of his Visual Arts major work in the ARTExpress showcase and also to Sophie Kreutzfeldt-Jensen whose HSC Drama individual project has been selected for OnSTAGE. This is an outstanding achievement for both students. Congratulations also go to their teachers Mitch Raguse and Eva Brown who have guided and mentored the students through the process.
I had the delightful opportunity to join with the Class of 2021 and their families for the Year 12 Formal on Tuesday evening. It was a wonderful evening and the students presented themselves with great elegance and style. It is always lovely to see the students present themselves in such a dignified way and a great opportunity to share their excitement about the next instalments in their young lives. Given the challenging and disrupted two years that have shaped their senior school studies, they have all done incredibly well to remain focused and committed to seeing the HSC through. As they depart, I ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they await their HSC results and embark on the next stage of their journey.
Once again, I wish to thank the incredible staff of Emmanuel Anglican College for all their hard work, enthusiasm, inspiration and dedication throughout 2021. They are a remarkable group of people and as a community we are enormously blessed by all that they do to support students to maximize their learning opportunities and grow in all facets of their being.
Thank you to all the parents of our Academic and Special Award recipients who joined us for our presentation ceremonies over the week. The small and intimate events had their own unique character and ensured that every award recipient was honoured for their efforts and achievement. They have been a wonderful way to finish this most unusual of years.
Congratulations to all award recipients who have demonstrated excellence in participation, effort, character, service, leadership and academic achievement throughout the year. A complete list of award recipients accompanies the photos below.

Congratulations on reaching the end of this long, at times uncertain and always challenging year. Step by step our EAC community has moved forward supporting, encouraging and being patient with each other.
Now is an opportunity for us to take the time to be kind to ourselves and enjoy time with family and friends. It is a time to reflect on what we have learned about ourselves and our ability to overcome adversity. It is a time of hope as we plan for what 2022 has in store.
Thank you to all of our families for their support throughout the year, especially during the learning from home phase which seemed so long ago now. I pray that all of you will have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and that you will enjoy quality time with your loved ones. Make the most of time spent with your family because "The healthiest response to life is joy." Deepak Chopra
This is certainly my wish and I am positive that many of you are wishing the same.
We are looking forward to an exciting year in 2022 and I will see you all then.

Primary Inter-House Basketball Tournament 2021
COVID-19 may have impacted our sport with other schools but thankfully it did not stop our Primary Inter-House Tournaments in 2021.
Last week was our final 2021 Inter-House Tournament, being our Primary Basketball Tournament. Congratulations to all Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 primary student who participated in this event, myself and the class teachers were particularly impressed with the high skill level demonstrated by the students after such little practice this term due to the swimming program. It was also positive to see such enthusiastic House spirit and the sportsperson virtues of fairness, kindness and encouragement of fellow House teammates, the opposition and respect for our referees.
A basketball tournament such as this requires many people to make it happen and I have some special people to thank. Firstly, the amazing Primary teachers for their help in assisting the House teams with student management and scoring and the wonderful assistance from our volunteer Secondary student referees (Bailey Wilson, Nkosi Malaba and Abe Tasker).

A Reflection on 2021
As I was thinking about the end of the school year and the challenges that we have all faces, I read a chapter of a book to my daughter "How to be cool in the seventh grade". This chapter talked about change and this is what school has meant for all our students this year. Change in the way we learn, how adaptable we have become, how we can pivot quickly and flexibility in making plans.
Many of us can remember starting high school and how awkward we felt. If you liken high school to a frog's life cycle, we are half way between being a tadpole and a frog. Change is something that physically occurs during the high school years as we all try and navigate the social expectations of being cool. These days cool can mean anything from wearing no socks with shoes to walking slowly to the canteen or hanging around with peers or posting random things on social media platforms.
This year the students have not only shown their ability to change in a physical way but linked to their learning and schooling. They have developed resilience and been able to navigate online learning and show how they can connect with their friends and teachers online. Students have still been able to show their personalities online in zoom lessons through their connection in Pastoral Care time or where they sit for their zoom lessons. They have also learnt the importance of face to face connection with the excitement shown when returning to face to face learning.
As we come to the end of the year, we should not just think of this year as a year of challenges but a year where students have learnt valuable skills for the future. These skills of resilience, being able to pivot and change, are valuable as they prepare to enter the workforce and into jobs that might not have been created.
Wishing everyone a restful and safe break and look forward to the exciting adventures 2022 brings.
