"But since you excel in everything - in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you - see that you also excel in this grace of giving."
Corinthians 8:7
From The Principal
I am delighted to be able to formally announce those students that have been elected as the Senior Student Leadership Team for 2021-22. I thank Mrs Middleton and Mr McGuigan for their guidance and support of the students of Year 10 and Year 11 as they have worked through the process of nominating and electing the leadership group. I congratulate the students who have been identified by their peers as having the skills and talents that mark them as a leader. I am sure they will make a wonderful contribution to EAC in the coming year.
I also want to thank and congratulate all those students who were generous and courageous enough to nominate for election this year. A willingness to be involved, to lend a hand and to give of your time are all signs of a person with great character. For those students who did nominate and were unsuccessful, I say thank you and also encourage them to continue to look for ways to be involved and to support the College. Whether wearing a badge or not, everyone has the opportunity to be a role model for others and to give something back to the College and our community.

Off the Deputy's Desk
What the world needs, now more than ever, is hope. When I say 'hope', you might be thinking airy-fairy hope or picturing pretty flowers and charitable causes. If so, think again. The 'hope' I'm talking about is the most powerful driver of human achievement.
It's active, not passive. It's strong, not feeble. It's courage, not fear.
Having 'hope' means clear thinking, not disillusionment. It's ongoing, not an end point. Hope is at the heart of every achievement because with hope comes meaning. With meaning, people feel engaged. Engaged people take action in their lives and in the work, and this action is what drives growth. When students have hope it has been shown to improve their grades, build emotional resilience and boost athletic performance. Hope is truly essential at the best of times and the worst.
Our Year 6 students worked on a project investigating the priorities that drive modern decision making on our planet. Their research gave them hope that the world will be a better place if we all consider the impacts of our activities.
Year 10 Science students considered the implications of Australia investing in nuclear power stations and in the process weighing up how that will impact the planet and the generations that follow us. Once again it is so important that students reflect on the implications of their studies and how they will create a world that offers hope for the future.
So let me conclude by offering my best wishes to our Year 12 students and their families who commence their Higher School Certificate examinations this week. Our prayers and hopes for the future are with you.

2021/2022 Student Leadership Team
College Captains
India Trevan: College Captain
Hi, I'm India and I'm one of the College Captains of 2021/22. I have been fortunate enough to have attended Emmanuel Anglican College since I started school in 2010 and am honoured to represent our school over the coming 12 months. Throughout my schooling I have had many great opportunities - participating in Tournament of the Minds, Duke of Edinburgh Award, competitions and excursions. As College Captain I strive to be a positive role model, encourage equality, kindness and acceptance and embody College beliefs and practices. I am a passionate person who looks out for people and genuinely cares for my peers and studies. I am dedicated to my last year of school and enthusiastic about what is to come.
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." Aesop
Judah Wright: College Captain
Hi folks, my name is Judah Wright, and I am one of the College Captains for 2021/22. I am incredibly grateful to serve Emmanuel Anglican College and partner with such an enthusiastic and passionate leadership group. It is through my active participation in various school carnivals, NCIS soccer, touch football, inter school debating, academic competitions, club soccer and my local church community, that I strive to reflect Christ's character and exemplify a biblical standard of leadership.
Strengthening inter stage social bonds with the school environment, whether that be between Secondary School and Primary School, or fostering a more personable connection between teachers and students is a key focus for 2022. I also understand the importance of connection and outreach, and thus will endeavor to develop the school's profile and involvement across the greater local community. It is my prayer that every student grows to recognise and understand the joy of learning by championing these few and precious years in school that will ultimately establish a foundation for their life.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

Hi! My name is Mia Hoey and I am the Student Representative Council President for 2021/22. I began attending Emmanuel Anglican College five years ago and am grateful for the support and encouragement I have received from the school community within this time. I hope to give back to our wonderful College through the empowerment of the student body to bring valuable change and additional opportunities to the community.
I am honoured to lead, and look forward to the busy year the Student Representative Council has ahead of them.
If you have any initiatives or ideas for events/local fundraisers please be in touch! My email is mhoey@eac.nsw.edu.au.
Jimi Carle: Student Leader (Arts and Culture)
Hi! My name is Jimi and I am your Arts and Culture Leader for 2022. As someone who takes Visual Art, I am very excited to be your student representative in this area. I hope to bring more opportunities within the arts and culture, not only participation wise but celebration wise. I believe it is important to celebrate all achievements within arts and culture, whether it be drama, music, painting, drawing, photography or major works. I want to bring our school together and celebrate all the successes within arts and culture.
I am so grateful for this opportunity to lead and I'm looking forward to what 2022 has to offer.
Farah Rezai-Smyth: Student Leader (Community Involvement)
Hi! My name is Farah and I am the Community Engagement Leader for 2022. I have attended Emmanuel Anglican College since Year 5 and throughout this time I have always aspired to be a leader. Throughout 2022 I want to represent the College and I am very excited for this opportunity. I am an active member in the College community and I love getting involved in all aspects of College including sport, academics and music. I am excited to connect the students with the community and inspire different community based initiatives. As Community Engagement Leader, I hope to be a role model for younger kids and create more opportunities for my peers to help the community. I want people to see Emmanuel Anglican College as a school that is passionate about helping its community and I look forward to being part of the amazing leadership team.
Jade Harris: Student Representative Council (Secretary)
Hello, my name is Jade Harris, I am the SRC Secretary for 2021/22. I have been a part of EAC for five years. I am an avid part of the school and community through my charity work with Cancer Council, Ballina bargain centre and the school's Lighthouse reading program. As a leader, participation is very important to me. I am an enthusiastic performer within the school's sporting events, gaining Year 11 swimming age champion and runner-up in many other events. I also put a lot of importance and effort into my studies. I am a part of the LGBTQI community and have overcome my own learning disabilities, so as SRC Secretary I plan to support and create better support for all throughout the school.
House Captains
Miloš Safranek: Walker House Captain
Hi! I'm Miloš Safranek and I'm one of the Walker House Captains for 2022.
I've been at Emmanuel Anglican College for all of my high schooling years and have been involved in many aspects of College life. I am excited to be a part of this amazing leadership team, giving me the opportunity to be a successful and hardworking leader, who leads by example and gives their all to contribute in whatever way possible. I've been heavily involved in numerous sporting teams in and outside of the College and am looking forward to being a part of the EAC leadership team for 2022. As House Captain, I intend to encourage my peers and help them to achieve their potential.
Michaela Ayebale: Walker House Captain
Hi I'm Michaela Ayebale and I'm one of the Walker House Captains. I'm so excited for this opportunity to represent my school and help encourage the people in my House. A little about myself, I am an enthusiastic person. I love joking around and learning about people, I love all things food and I can't wait to share this great journey with everyone.
Nkosi Malaba: Smith House Captain
Hey! My name is Nkosi Malaba and I am one of the Smith House Captains for 2022. I have been at Emmanuel Anglican College for the entirety of my high school and primary school education. My large number of years at Emmanuel have allowed me to experience all aspects of College life at some point throughout my schooling, this ranges from participating in the Concert Band, to sporting teams and even chess competitions. This has allowed me to truly understand what it means to be a student at this school.
My goal as House Captain is to make a positive impact on the lives of all my peers, helping them bring out the best in themselves. I promise to work hard, and aim to continue building on the already great College community.
Ryan Kernaghan: Smith House Captain
Hi, my name is Ryan Kernaghan but feel free to call me Kerno. I am in my fifth year attending Emmanuel Anglican College and am looking forward to the opportunity of Smith House Captain 2022. I am a kind, athletic and energetic student and always strive to reach my potential. As Smith House Captain I aim to encourage and support my peers to allow them to also reach their potential. 2022 will once again be the year of Smith continuing our five year streak, not only winning carnivals but increasing our participation and growing our House culture to give everyone a place and make everyone feel as though they belong.
William Lane: Brockington House Captain
Hi, my name is William Lane and I'm 2022 Brockington House Captain. I have attended Emmanuel Anglican College since the early days of 2009. I have observed the dramatic increase in scale of this school, growing from about 150 to a mighty 750 students. During my time at EAC I have been involved in a variety of activities, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award (receiving Bronze and Silver Awards and beginning the Gold Award), Lions Leadership Camp Kanga, volunteering within the school and many other academic competitions and opportunities.
I am excited for my final year of schooling life, as this year will come with many challenges and responsibilities which I am eager to embrace. I feel honoured to have the opportunity to give back to the College, and utilise my role to create a positive impact on our school's community.
Conrad Bahadur: Brockington House Captain
My name is Conrad Bahadur, I have been elected as Brockington House Captain for 2022. I enjoy playing soccer and I play at Byron Bay Football Club. I enjoy learning about and using technology, my hope is to go to university and gain a computer science degree. I have been lucky enough to be involved in so many aspects of my school and community. Whether it was volunteering at the canteen on Tuesdays, helping out the upcoming Year 7's or training the younger boys at Byron Bay Football Club.
I hope I can inspire those around me and aspire to be better than those before me. I am excited to start this new journey with my House next year.
Oliver Payne: Purcival House Captain
I have always been an enthusiastic person, having encouraged many students to do their best by being involved in many things myself. Various activities spark my curiosity and imagination, as I love doing teamwork with other hard working people, however, I specifically enjoy creativity, science and maths. Despite this, I happily engage in all areas of sport and academics, and more importantly, always engage in inspiring younger students in both early high school and late primary school, and always make an effort to greet people in the school. Feel free to speak to me about anything, as I am happy to do so.
Thomas Stredder: Purcival House Captain
Hi, my name is Tom, and I will be taking the role of Purcival House Captain for 2022. I have attended the College since 2015 and it has been such a fulfilling journey that has been accompanied with the support of amazing people that the College has always been renowned for. In my time at the College, I have been fortunate enough to be involved in activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh program, College Band, Landcare services and school sporting teams including basketball and netball. During the following school year, I would like to continue building a positive culture of passion, love, kindness and respect throughout the College while taking great satisfaction in witnessing the tremendous personal growth of students throughout their schooling journey from Kindergarten to Year 12.
I am excited to lead the Purcival House in 2022 and am eager to discover what the following year brings for all of us.
Secondary News
Friendships are important during our life. As a teenager, friendship helps to provide a sense of belonging and a social group which have shared values and interests. Some teenagers may navigate a number of friendship groups before they find a group that they feel they can be honest with and others may have the same friends that they had in kindy all their life.
From time to time, friendships break down and this is very difficult for many to understand or deal with in a school setting. This is just a part of life and many of us have dealt with this ourselves during stages of our life. As parents, we need to support our children as they navigate friendships, especially with the added pressure of social media and help them to find friendship with a group that they feel safe and secure with.
Some ways that Reachout.com encourages parents to help teenagers navigate friendships include:
1. Talk about the value of honesty.
Encourage your teen to make friends with people they can trust and be honest with. Talk to them about how a good friend will:
- Make them feel relaxed and able to be themselves.
- Tell them the truth and listen without judgement.
- Won't pressure them, blame them or make them feel anxious.
2. Highlight good qualities in their peers
When you see their peers doing something positive, talk about it with your teen. Explain why you admire this kind of behaviour and also talk about other qualities that build good, strong friendships like:
- Listening and being understanding.
- Trusting and keeping confidences.
- Supporting and being respectful.
3. Help your teenager to bond with others over common interests
Where you live and what your teenager's interests are may make this one a little tricky. Here's some suggestions to help:
- Find out what clubs, youth groups, sports or school holiday programs your teen can join in your area. If what they're interested in is hard to get to, see if you can join up with other parents to share transport.
- Some activities can cost a lot. If your teen's interested in something that's free once they have the equipment (ie skateboarding, photography, surfing, cycling) see if you can help them get the kit they need on eBay or Gumtree.
- Encourage your teen to invite friends home to play video games or watch films, if your home situation allows. If they're reluctant, ask them what's up, they might be worried about siblings barging in, or not know how to ask. Fairly quick fixes when you know what they are.
4. Support the way your teen likes to socialise
Think about your teen's character, and encourage them to play to their strengths:
- If they like settling down to have a good chat, encourage them to arrange going for lunch with someone they like.
- If they open up more during a physical activity, encourage them to go and do something with a mate like bike riding, hiking or kicking a footy around.
- These days, there's huge scope for connecting online with people who share your interests. If your teen finds opening up to others easier over a keyboard, then forums and online gaming can be a great place for them to build their confidence, as long as you check in with them regularly to make sure that they're safe.
5. Use your own friendships as an example
Be open with your teen about your own friendships and set an example by letting them see how you are with your own friends:
- Show them how friendship is a two way street that requires some effort and nurturing.
- Talk about things you have done with your friends and ways you have supported each other.
- Include your teen in some activities that involve your good friends, like parties, backyard barbecues and picnics in the park.
6. Support your teen in developing their judgement
Trust your teen and encourage them to develop good judgement through their own experiences:
- Tell them you're there for them if they need to bounce anything off you.
- Tell them that good friendship takes time to develop and to take it at their own speed.
- Remind them that some people take a while to open up, and to give the quieter ones in their circle a chance.
7. If you're worried about negative influences on your teen
Read up on how to recognise bad friendships on the Reachout.com website for how to spot and deal with negative peer pressure and toxic friendships.

Canteen
Canteen Stock - End of Year
With the college year coming to an end I will be cutting back on ordering so that excess stock is not being held over the Christmas break.
This will begin in week seven (7), next week. Check the newsletter each week for availability of items and what stock is running low. Items will be removed from the School Stream online ordering app as stock runs out.
I will always have available fresh items sandwiches, rolls etc but will also guarantee dino nuggets and mini pies.
Thank you for your continuing support of the canteen in 2021.
Canteen Menu 2021
The Canteen menu complies with the NSW Healthy School canteen strategy. Please note that items change in price from time to time.
Online Canteen Ordering
We are excited to be able to offer online Canteen ordering via the 'School Stream' app. All online orders must be completed and submitted prior to 8.45am on the day they are required, to enable Canteen staff enough time to prepare and distribute orders.
Manual Canteen Ordering
If you are unable to use the 'School Stream' App please place the money in a paper bag of sufficient size to fit all of the items. If you are ordering a drink with your child’s lunch, please provide two (2) bags. Please write the information on the LOWER half of the bag. If money is short we will substitute items to the value received.
REMEMBER, if ordering at both breaks, you must have a separate bag for each break.
Any change required will be placed in the bag for return with the child’s order.
All orders must be received at the canteen before 9.15am.
Emergency Lunch
At times, for various reasons, students may require an emergency meal (basic sandwich), this will be provided with a canteen note sent home requesting payment, please send in the money to the Canteen ASAP.
