Term 3 | Week 2 | 29 July 2022
Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men.
Colossians 3:23
From The Acting Principal
This week has been a wonderful week of kicking goals, whatever the code! The first goal was the weather which brightened up the College and energised everyone. Kindergarten students celebrated their first 100 days, reminding us of just how fast the year is going. I had the pleasure of reading Kindergarten students Pig The Pug which was a wonderful opportunity for me to share in their joy. While on the same day the students in Years 10 to 12 attended the Northern Rivers Careers Expo, excited by the prospect of what lies ahead after school.
The abundance of energy was clearly evident at both the Primary and Secondary Athletics Carnivals with a number of excellent performances on the day and great participation by all students. These are the days that I most enjoy being at school and sharing in the excitement and competition of the days’ events.
At a recent meeting regarding COVID updates, the NSW Chief Health Officer, Dr Chant, reinforced the importance of continuing to be aware of risk mitigation factors. As outlined in my previous updates, the College is encouraging mask wearing and masks are available for any students or staff who wishes to wear one. The College is continuing to ensure effective ventilation in classrooms and to continue our thorough cleaning regime.
Most importantly for everyone's health, students, staff and parents should not be attending the school grounds if they are presenting with flu-like symptoms in light of not only COVID variants but also the current spike in influenza viruses.
So may the sunny days remain and continue to invigorate us all.

OFF THE ACTING DEPUTY'S DESK
Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!
The NAIDOC week theme for 2022 encourages all of us to champion institutional, structural, collaborative and cooperative change while celebrating those who have already driven and led change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities over generations.
At Emmanuel Anglican College we celebrated NAIDOC week through a formal assembly. The assembly started with an Acknowledgement of Country and a didgeridoo meditation led by Dylan Steele. This allowed everyone to listen to the beautiful sounds of the music and feel the breath in and out of the body. The assembly continued acknowledging our First Nations people and Mrs McClelland's Year 1 class sang to the assembly. This was a wonderful way to acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members of the College and wider community.
Students within the primary school over the next few weeks will take part in a range of Indigenous activities whilst the Year 12 students completed the Coastal Walk with Aboriginal Heritage at the end of last term.
If is important that we all celebrate the wonderful diversity of the Indigenous nations especially the Bundjalung nation.

Acting Deputy Principal
Athletics Carnivals a hit with Students
This week we have continued to celebrate with our community with both the Primary and Secondary Athletics Carnivals. These carnivals allow students who excel at sport to display their skills and talents as well as boosting House spirit for all.
Being part of a team brings a sense of belonging and accomplishment when challenges are overcome together, win or lose.
Research affirms a strong link between physical activity and academic performance.
Sport helps build resilience in students. They learn to cope with disappointments in life, hopefully accepting they can’t always win or blame others for their failures, but they can still enjoy participating.
It was wonderful to hear all the Houses practicing their chants and cheers and preparing for the carnival. It was also great to see the level of participation of students at both carnivals.
Congratulations to the EAC Sports Staff for putting together two great days of events and to all the parent volunteers who helped out each day.

EAC Boys Blitz at
NSW All Schools Cross Country
EAC had two students compete at the NSW All Schools Cross Country held at Eastern Creek on 22 July. Both boys had been training hard prior to the event and it showed, with Robbie placing 15th in the U15 Boys and Jett finishing 9th in the U14 Boys with roughly 100 in each boys age group. A fantastic result from both boys and a great achievement.

Music Notes
Matilda News
It was wonderful to welcome 70 students to the Matilda Audition Workshop last week. Next Wednesday 3 August, the first round of auditions will take place in The Lindsay Walker Centre. Students who missed the audition workshop may still audition. Audition sign up sheets are located in the front office. Students who wish to work backstage are not required to audition.
Audition Notes and Tips
- Please do NOT over rehearse/ practice with your children - we want to hear and see their natural voices and expressions
- We will coach them in the audition - part of what we want to see is how coachable they are and how well they take direction etc.
- We have our own vision for each role and how they are to be portrayed
- Pre coaching your child may in fact do them a dis-service as your vision (or other coaches) may be different than what we require
- All children need for the audition is to know and be able to sing (without accompaniment)
- Happy Birthday, and
- Advance Australia Fair
- There will be a pianist on hand to pitch test the children (i.e. see if they can pitch a note as played on the keyboard), and to give them starting keys
- We will also vocal range them against the keyboard (i.e. see how high and how low they can sing)
- Please do not send sheet music with prepared songs as they are not required and will not be used
- There will be call-backs for potential roles where we will explore and sing songs from the show
- Call-back candidates will be notified after the initial auditions
- If your child goes to dance classes, gymnastics, cheerleading, acrobatics etc. PLEASE TELL US - these are relevant skills to the Production
- Please reassure your children that we are friendly, relaxed and want them to have fun - we have all been in shows ourselves and know auditions are scary and we will do our best to ensure they enjoy the experience
- Please discuss with your child that not everyone will “make“ the show - there are limited places in any cast and we cannot fit the entire school on the stage so there are bound to be disappointments
- There will be more EAC Productions in the future and working in other capacities and backstage is also heaps of fun.
Many thanks for your enthusiasm and support

Canteen Cookup
Term 3 Canteen Menu
Please note that from the start of Term 3, Primary students will only be able to place an order from the canteen for the First Break. If students put in a Second Break order in error, the Canteen staff will supply it in the First Break. The cut off time for parents to order via the School Stream App will be 8.30am. The Canteen can still be able to be accessed in-person by Years 1-6 at Second Break.
We apologise for the inconvenience, however, this decision is to ensure an efficient Canteen service across the entire school each day.
Online Canteen Ordering
We are excited to be able to offer online Canteen ordering via the 'School Stream' app. Please refer to the recent letter to all families with instructions on how to download the app to your phone, tablet or computer.
Once the app is installed you will be able to view and select from the canteen menu by clicking on Canteen. This will bring up the canteen order form where you will be able to enter the child's details and select desired items from the dropdown lists under the relevant headings and pay. You will be prompted to tick which break you require your selection for.
All online orders must be completed and submitted prior to 8.30am.
Manual Canteen Ordering
If you are unable to use the 'School Stream' App please place the money in a paper bag of sufficient size to fit all of the items. If you are ordering a drink with your child’s lunch, please provide two (2) bags. Please write the information on the LOWER half of the bag. If money is short we will substitute items to the value received.
REMEMBER, if ordering at both breaks, you must have a separate bag for each break. Any change required will be placed in the bag for return with the child’s order.
All manual orders must be received at the canteen before 9.15am.

Pre Schoolers Ready and Set to Go
Our Early Learning Centre Preschoolers are starting their preparations for Big School with an upcoming experience day in the Gunundi Building with Mrs Kelvin and Mrs Smith. Look out for the littlest of our lot as they bravely go forward!
Primary Pulse
Kindy Kids Turn 100
This week our EAC Kindy Kids celebrated their new status as College centurions after clocking up 100 days at Primary School. Tuesday saw great festivities with hat making, classroom decorations, a thrilling 'Pig the Pug' storytime with Mr McGuigan, Acting Principal, and special presentation with parents complete with singing and dancing.
"100 days is a really long time in the life of a Kindergartener" said Mrs Smith, teacher of KB. "They've all learnt so much and are just so proud to be part of the College community. We're really proud of them too."
Mrs Kelvin, teacher of KA commented that "This year's cohort will be the graduating class of 2034 which seems both far away and just around the corner at the same time. The potential of these children is enormous and they're already achieving so much."
Lunchtime Clubs
Our ever-popular student-led Lunchtime Clubs are back for Term 3.
This term, our Years 5 and 6 students are eager to provide their peers with the following activities:

Secondary Scoop
Hush for HSC
Over the next few weeks our Year 12 students will be undertaking their final preparations for the HSC exams with trial tests. The tests are a great 'dress rehearsal' for the exam conditions our students will shortly find themselves in and will give them a great chance to calm their nerves and focus their thoughts. We'll be keeping noise and movement to a minimum close to the test locations around the College grounds so if you see a sign for 'Shhh', you'll know you're near our Year 12s so please do keep as quiet as you can and wish them luck!
EAC Student seedlings set to Grow
EAC Students from across the College came together on Friday 29 July for the Planet Ark Schools Tree Day and planted a range of local native trees in the gardens surrounding The Lindsay Walker Centre. Author Nelson Henderson once said "The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit." The trees planted this year will watch on as the students who planted them grow, learn and go on to have marvellous adventures all around the world. The trees will provide shade for students not yet even born but who will benefit from their protection and dream their own dreams under the trees' branches. Thanks to all the students who participated, the Maintenance Staff who carefully sourced and prepared the site and to the Secondary Teaching Staff for facilitating this great initiative.
Year 11 Hospitality Students get a taste for the Industry
In the final week of Term 2, Year 11 Hospitality Students completed 35hrs of work placement giving them invaluable insight into the industry. Students were working in kitchens throughout the Northern Rivers as well as in Brisbane and even as far afield as Townsville in North Queensland. The placement was a resounding success with lots of happy employers and great experience for students with even a few job offers made. EAC thanks all the employers involved in the placement program and congratulates students on representing the College so well.
