"Be compassionate, do not judge and you will not be judged. Give and there will be gifts for you for the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given back."
Luke 6:37-38
From The Principal
Well, what a wonderful evening that was had by all who attended ‘A Grand Affair’ on Saturday evening at Fenwick House. It was a wonderful opportunity for families, friends and staff of the College to come together in the spirit of both friend-raising and fundraising. There was plenty of glitz and glamour on show with everyone embracing the opportunity to dress up and get into the spirit of the 1920’s styled event. The event was a raging success in every regard with many new friendships made, old ones renewed, lots of fun had by all and of course, it was very successful from a fundraising point of view.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended and the incredibly generous families and businesses who supported the event both financially and with in-kind support. Once again, the very best of the EAC community came to the fore highlighted by their enthusiasm, generosity and commitment to this great event.
It would be remise of me not to mention the event organisers, Jodie Manning-Hayter (Friends President) and Vanessa Hansen (Friends Treasurer). They have put in countless hours over the last 6 weeks to pull together the event including seeking sponsors, developing advertisements, arranging catering, managing the organisation of the games and auction and spending three full days setting up the venue and another two days packing up after the event. On behalf of the whole community I thank Jodie and Vanessa for their amazing efforts and desire to give something back to the community. It will be an evening that is talked about in EAC folklore for many years to come and we all have Jodie and Vanessa to thank for that wonderful opportunity. I look forward to announcing to the community the final total of the amount raised on the evening.
By the end of the term, I would have had the great pleasure to have read the Academic Report of every student from Kindergarten to Year 11. As I write this article I am about two thirds of the way through the reports and I am absolutely proud, humbled and delighted with the level of commitment of the students to their learning, their extra curricular involvement and their desire to embrace the values of our community. There are just so many great news stories in the reports of excellent effort, high achievement, overcoming challenges, participating in College life and demonstrating College values. The students should be very proud of their efforts and learning gains. The Mid Year Report provides families with an excellent opportunity to reflect on the students' learning journey for the first half of the academic year, to celebrate the efforts and outcomes of the semester and to set goals for the semester that lies ahead. I commend the reports to you and am sure that they will be a source of much discussion over the kitchen table during the term break. Parent and Teacher Meetings will take place in Week Two of next term and bookings will be open on the Parent Lounge shortly.
A special vote of thanks for the teaching staff who have so generously and skillfully given of their time and talents over the semester to provide the incredible plethora of fun and engaging learning opportunities for our students. Each student report contains a list of extra curricular involvement and as I read through the list of sporting, curricular, academic, service and leadership opportunities I was reminded of the vast number of out of classroom initiatives that our teaching staff create and support for the benefit of the students. The staff at EAC are wonderful and we are so blessed to have such a passionate and generous team of teachers.
Once again, I invite all our families to join us for the Secondary Ensemble Performance Evening at the College on Thursday evening. It will be a lovely way for the students to celebrate the end of an excellent semester. Please come along and enjoy the show. I promise you it will be very entertaining!
And while we are on the topic of music, congratulations to Year 10 student Raquel van Merwyk who was selected as a member of the 2021 NSW Regional Youth Orchestra and had the incredible opportunity to perform at the Sydney Opera House and participate in the Australian World Orchestra. Raquel is a highly accomplished violinist and member of the Northern Rivers Conservatorium. This is an excellent achievement and we are very proud of Raquel. Well done.

Off the Deputy's Desk
It is with mixed emotions that I write my final newsletter article as Deputy Principal of EAC. It has been a wonderful learning experience to serve as Deputy Principal of this wonderful school. There is so much staff and student potential at EAC that I am sure that the school will go on to even greater things.
I would like to think that I have served the community to the absolute best of my ability each day. There have been some funny, sad, touching, challenging, frustrating and exhilarating moments during my time here. Teaching is a wonderful vocation and the fact that you get to experience these emotions says a lot about the very human essence of the role. It is a job done by people, for people in the hope that we make our students better people who can can then grow up to make our world a better place. In a nutshell, that’s why I do what I do.
I wish all of our students, parents and my respected colleagues every success for the future. I hope that I will always be a welcome visitor to EAC and I will follow the fortunes of the school very closely.
I would like to thank Mr Rob Tobias for his wonderful leadership, the College Executive for their professionalism and all the staff and students for making my time here so memorable. It has indeed been a privilege!
Have a wonderful winter holiday and God Bless!

Primary NSW Schools Cup Netball Carnival
On Thursday 10th June the EAC primary girls and boys netball teams attended the Primary NSW Schools Cup Netball Carnival at the Ballina Netball Association courts.
This tournament consisted of both single sex and mixed sex teams and teams could enter as either competitive or non-competitive. EAC entered competitive all male and all female teams and two non-competitive teams, one all girl team and one a mixed team.
All teams had wins during the round games with the all girls competitive team playing very well resulting in only 1 loss during the round games. At the conclusion of the round games in the competitive tournament our girls team placed second and the boys team placed third. These results were excellent and it meant that the girls played in the grand final and the boys team in the play off game for third. The boys team won their game and placed 3rd overall in the tournament.
The girls grand final game was against Holy Family (Skennars Head). The girls team settled into their rhythm of play quickly and played outstanding both in defense and attack and in the end were the winners! In doing so the girls team have booked their place into the next round of the Primary NSW Schools Cup. The girls team is looking forward to continuing to improve their netball skills and seeing how far they can progress.
Special thanks goes to the primary netball coaching staff of Kate, Naomi, Claudia and Meegan for all of their hard work training the teams, as well as our maintenance staff for their assistance in preparing the gear we required for the carnival and Graham Walker for all his administrative background preparation. Special thanks to our Year 9/10 EAC umpires (Lara Atkinson, Elise Edmiston, Lucia Mitchell and Lola Saul ) who did a great job with their umpiring duties all day as well as all of the parents for ensuring their daughter/son arrived on time at school or the netball courts for the carnival.
A further thank you to the players/students for their excellent behavior, sportsmanship and respect to the umpires and staff throughout the day.
The EAC Primary Netball coaches look forward to seeing the students learn from this experience and look forward to continuing to train them for the NCIS Primary Netball tournament in term 3.

Secondary Hockey Games
Following six weeks of hockey skills and development training, our EAC Under 16 Boys and Girls Hockey teams played against Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School (Tweed Heads) on Friday 18th June.
Both EAC teams played incredibly well considering for many it was their first ever competitive game of Hockey. The Lindisfarne teams were highly skilled with every single player being a regular hockey player. Even so the EAC boys team were only narrowly defeated 5-3 and the girls team were also competitive with the final scoreline being 4-0. Whilst the EAC teams were not winners on the day each student enjoyed their experience and playing against such strong opposition will improve their skill level and understanding of hockey. The EAC Under 16 Boys and Girls Hockey teams together with the Under 14 Boys team will continue to train together in Term 3 in preparation for the NRCC hockey gala day.
Special thanks goes to the hockey coaching staff of Tony Meldrum (from Ballina Hockey Club) and EAC staff member Kellie Guest for all of their hard work in training and preparing the teams for the Lindisfarne games and NRCC hockey gala day.

The Championships were held in Penrith. Representing NCIS, these students played very well against some strong competition.
Whilst none of the NCIS teams were winners on the day each student enjoyed their experience and playing against such strong opposition will improve their development, understanding and touch football skills.

Wellbeing and Making Connections
On Monday, Year 10 students participated in a Wellbeing Day. This day provided opportunities for students to develop connections with their year group and learn something about someone who they would not normally spend time with. Connections and a Sense of Belonging are important aspects of the Australian Wellbeing Framework and this day provided these opportunities.
The students were separated by gender for this day. The males participated in a workshop run by Tomorrow Man which encouraged them to challenge the old school male stereotypes and talk with each other about how they are feeling, their anxiety and challenges and mental health. The students really embraced this workshop and many have approached me saying that this was the best session they have ever attended. The students left feeling connected to each other and developed a shared understanding of how each of them feel.
The females participated in a workshop led by Unstoppable Girls. This workshop provided time for the girls to sit, connect, share experiences and develop a support network within their peer group. Again, the girls spoke and connected with people wider than their normal group of friends and developed the sense of belonging that is supported at the College.
The rest of the day was led by our staff with a focus on Spiritual Connection, Physical Connection, Inclusivity and performance. These workshops supported students to continue to build relationships with their peer group and to reflect on the Anglican Ethos of the College, the importance of physical health, acceptance of diversity which is important during Pride Month and moving outside your comfort zone with theatre sports.
As we head into the holidays, I hope that the students continue to talk about their feelings and reflect on the physical, social and emotional aspects of their life. The Wellbeing lessons during Term 4 will continue to build on connections and a sense of belonging.

Primary Update
It has been a great term in Primary with many functions back on the college calendar, including our Kindy and Year One picnics, music concerts, the talent show and a variety of sporting events. Last week I enjoyed attending the tutor concerts, again witnessing students as young as Year One performing in front of big crowds and this Thursday our Year 3 Development Band will make their public debut as part of the Winter Concert series.
Next term we will hold our Year 3-6 Athletics Day on the first day back, Tuesday 13 July. Our K-2 students can look forward to their Mini Carnival on Thursday 29 July. Week 2 will be busy celebrating Naidoc Week and our Parent Teacher interviews will also take place on Monday 19 and Wednesday 21 July of that week. Before then, please ensure you have read your child’s Semester One report which our teachers take great care and time in writing. Thursday 22 July marks 100 Days of Kindergarten and we welcome Kindergarten parents to attend a special Chapel service here at EAC at 2pm on that day.
This week we farewell our College Deputy Principal Mr Darren Parks. Mr Parks played a big part in the daily life of our Primary students, reading the student reports, helping to organise excursions, communicating with parents, dressing up for book parades and always ensuring a presence in the Primary School. Mr Parks has a background in Primary education and could be seen in the Primary each day, checking in on the students and the staff. The students were known by Mr Parks and enjoyed his good humor, caring nature and genuine connections he made across the College.
I do hope that you find some time over the holidays to relax and unwind after a busy term and we look forward to welcoming the students back on Tuesday 13 July.

Dion Drummond Performance
Students in K-6 had the opportunity to watch a performance by Dion Drummond, an Indigenous man from far north Queensland. Dion shared stories, artefacts and song and dance, from his culture. He also highlighted the important value of respect with both humour and energy. It was an engaging and interactive performance.

Peer Support - Session 7
This week in Peer Support, students discussed the importance of showing gratitude to others. They were encouraged to reflect on the positive aspects of their lives, including people. The activities gave the students an opportunity to thank someone who has helped them.
During the week encourage your child to appreciate and thank the people in their lives.
