"For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes."
29 Jeremiah 11-14
From The Principal
Attending my first Synod in Coffs Harbour I enjoyed Bishop Dr Murray’s address which focused on the issues of Attitude, Reflection and Respectful Relationships. The idea that attitude is seen as the embodiment of the Holy Spirit to create character was never more clearly illustrated than through the resilience shown by students and staff to overcome the myriad of obstacles faced this year.
This attitude was clearly evident on Schools Netball Day where our 7/8 Girls moved to the second round, beating arch rivals Lindisfarne to get there. Something which hasn't been done for many years (if at all) in the girls’ divisions. The 7/8 Boys and 9/10 Boys also moved through to the second round. Our team of all Year 9s went undefeated against older teams. A number of them backing up after a full day at NCIS Soccer. Thanks to super coaches Mrs Heidi Miller, Mrs Selina Atkinson and Mr Mason Brenton.
The Year 12 students have been involved in a series of regular timetabled mindfulness activities harnessing their capacity to reflect on their journey and to focus on the here and now. It is so important to foster passion by developing a vision but to achieve success it is vital to take the small daily and incremental steps along the journey. Some days that journey is easier than others as they juggle the numerous commitments on their time.
This combination of attitude and the willingness to reflect, endeavours to develop young people who grow in resilience through the development of positive relationships. Through these shared experiences they can develop the capacity to focus on the here and now and to manage the daily challenges they will encounter.

off the deputy's desk
As I drive into the College grounds every morning, I see a number of parents dropping their children off for a variety of sport training and students happily engaging in sports and developing a range of important teamwork skills. I then walk through the grounds and hear music as the College bands rehearse and students develop their musical skills. The range of extracurricular opportunities for students at EAC allows for students of a variety of interests to engage and feel a sense of belonging within the community.
A sense of belonging to the College community is so important for students, especially after the isolation of COVID-19 and the recent floods. A sense of belonging refers to students’ feelings or being accepted and valued by their peers and by others at school. It reflects the extent to which a student feels respected, included and supported by others.
If we as parents look back to our own schooling, we probably don’t remember much of what we learnt in class but remember the extracurricular activities we were involved in. EAC ensures that the variety of activities available for students helps to support both their academic achievement and wellbeing. The interest that students display in these extracurricular activities supports attendance and helps in the development of lifelong memories and friendships.
Developing a sense of belonging and the social and emotional skills to support each student so they have the important life skills when they leave the College. Belonging is more than just fitting in. At EAC we ensure that everyone is accepted for who they are and what skills and experiences they bring to the table.

Sports Update
Hockey News
Year 9 students Finnigan Robinson and Kalani Franklin represented Far North Coast NSW at the NSW Under 15 Boys State Cup Tournament in Grafton on the recent long weekend. The Far North Coast team made the grand final in Division 2 but unfortunately lost 1-0. Both Finnigan and Kalani played exceptionally well and were stand out players of the tournament, leading to them being invited to join the NSW Under 18 Hockey Squad.
This is an amazing achievement considering the boys are just 14 and 15.
Both boys are part of the NSW Athlete Acceleration Program (AAP) which is aimed at talented athletes aged 16 – 18, where traditionally the highest rate of attrition occurs and when skill development is crucial to an athlete’s progress. This is a program developed through extensive collaboration with NSWIS and Hockey Australia and it allows athletes from any area to advance their skills to the elite level.
Finnigan and Kalani will continue training with the AAP development coaches until the NSW U18 team trial in December. The NSW Under 18 Hockey team will be announced in January 2023, with the team then competing at the Australian National Titles in March 2023.
EAC wishes Finnigan and Kalani every success in their training and endeavour to break into the NSW Under 18 team.
NCIS Secondary Football
EAC had 4 teams (U15 and Open Boys and Girls) in the NCIS Secondary Football Tournament held in Coffs Harbour on Tuesday 14 June.
The weather and venue were excellent and all teams were excited to play in the tournament following its postponement earlier in the term. From the very first game, each of our teams played with team work, skill and determination whilst demonstrating great sportsmanship and respect to opponents, officials and staff.
The girls were very unlucky in a couple of games culminating in finishing in a very credible third place in both the U15 and Open Girls Tournament. In a day of close games the U15 girls had a great win over Lindisfarne. Special mention to the U15 girls, in particular Amelia Atkinson, who had to play up in the Open Girls team as they were short on players.
Both our boys teams (coach, Mr Mason Brenton) results were outstanding. With the U15s boys (playing in an U16 division) dominating teams all day and winning convincingly (4 nil) against arch rival Lindisfarne. It should also be noted that the U15 team did not concede a single goal against them all day!
The Open Boys demonstrated amazing teamwork and their enthusiasm was matched only by BDC, who stole a win in the last moments due to a controversial at best penalty. The Opens too were playing against older boys with EAC fielding a mixture of Year 10 and 11 boys with some juniors filling in throughout the day.
We look forward to what these teams achieve in the coming years.
Special thanks goes to our coaching staff comprising Wendy Britton (Specialist Soccer Coach), Mr Mason Brenton and Dr Justine Jacob.
Primary Inter House Touch Football Tournament
Given recent wet weather impacting our school oval, this year's Primary Inter House Touch Football Tournament was held last week at the Ballina hockey field in glorious winter sunshine.
The event follows a five week Primary touch football sport program for all Year 3 to Year 6 students. It is a fun Inter House Gala Day that includes round robin games and Inter House finals for each year group.
All teachers were impressed with the skills demonstrated and the team focused style of touch football played by each House, together with good sportsmanship and respect to other teams and officials.
The winning Houses for each age group is listed below:
Year 3: Smith House
Year 4: Walker House
Year 5: Brockington House
Year 6: Walker House
With this year's overall winning House being Walker House.
A special mention goes out to our Secondary School referees (Jack Whitaker, Mathew Smith, Katie Smith, Chloe Neilson, Priya Singh-Pangly and Mikala Campbell), who did a fantastic job over the two day tournament and the amazing Primary School Teachers for their assistance and house management.

EAC Mountain Bike Team Training #3 at Nerang, Friday 17 June
What a day. From no bus to hot, dry weather to some awesome riding to a stack! We had it all.
First of all, I would like to say a big well done to all the riders for their enthusiasm and helpfulness and to all the parents who provided bike AND student transport. It is great to have so many supportive parents who, as well as transporting bikes and riders, helped with leading groups around the trails, changing flat tyres and other mechanical issues.
It was such a great day on the trails and it was evident that students enjoyed a bit more freedom to choose which trails to ride and who to ride with. This allowed them to ‘session’ parts of the trails that will be utilised in their race next month.
Our next challenge is the Rocky Trails Academy race on Friday 22 July which will be made up of 3 times stages or individual races. One being a flat, technical cross country stage and two more downward ‘enduro’ type trails.
The conditions in Nerang are usually quite dry with lots of large, sharp rocks that are often loose, making cornering and descending difficult.
During our ride, the team handled these conditions amazingly with only one minor crash which left one of our junior riders with a bit of skin off his knee and elbow. Nothing that has hampered his willingness to keep riding.
Finally, a big thanks, as always, to Mr Raguse and Mr Hartel for coming along and giving up a day in the classroom for a day on the trails.
No doubt everyone is looking forward to our next ride.

NSW Schools Cup Netball 2022
The Regional All Schools Cup was held by Netball NSW on Thursday 16 June and Emmanuel continued to punch above its weight in netball.
Competing against girls that play together regularly, the Year 7 and 8 girls were successful in progressing through to the second round. Beating arch rivals Lindisfarne to finish second place in their division. Martha and Olivia shot consistently well all day and our defensive end was a force to be reckoned with. Asha and Takiyah worked seamlessly together to turnover multiple balls.
Our Year 7 and 8 boys team, on their first venture out, also progressed through to the second round. Narrowly finishing first in their pool on for and against points. A champion effort by those involved, particularly those newer members to the squad. Mitchell's shooting progressed every round and Nick showed adaptability and flexibility to play both ends of the court. Hayden was a dogged defender that would pester any player into a turnover. The junior boys in particular, showed great sportsmanship and made some great mates along the way.
While not successful this time, the Year 9 and 10 girls saw some outstanding performances. Special mention for Amity Sweeney, Mili Docherty and Ava Walheim who played out of their skins.
Of all our teams, perhaps the most impressive was Year 9 boys playing in the 9 and 10 division. They finished the day undefeated against teams that were not afraid to play rough. Of course, skill always beats the desperation of a physical game and they have the skill of teenage boys with a few wins under their belt in spades (just ask them). Kaelan stood up to the pushy midcourt, coming on strong and unfazed, even making a few gains. Jack Carrigg fed the circle with a steady hand and precision timing. Cooper continued his reign as intercept king and a shooter's worst nightmare while Jack Lawson danced around the circle like a seasoned professional, sinking goals before they knew what had happened.
Thanks to super coaches Heidi Miller, Selina Atkinson, Brigette Campbell and Mason Brenton for every Wednesday morning over the last 6-7 weeks and for the people at home who get them there early each week. Training continues for the successful teams who made it to the Regional finals held in Lismore on 9 August.

Music Notes
Afternoon Sessions - Thursday 16 and Friday 17 June
TC6 was turned from a Music rehearsal room into an underground music stage for our semester Tutor Concerts.
24 students from Kindy to Year 11 performed a range of pieces on drums, guitar, bass, vocals and piano, some of which were their own compositions! A special mention to Sam Mooney whose piece about global warming was a massive hit. So poignant at this time in history.
Many thanks to parents, students and tutors for their efforts in making the Afternoon Sessions a success.

Safe on Social Media Parent Evening
A reminder for the upcoming parent education evening next Thursday 30 June led by the team at Safe on Social, Australia’s most trusted, and in demand Cybersafety and Cyberbullying education, training and consulting company.
From their website:
We specialise in delivering programs that are authentic, factual, conversational and non-fearmongering. We share stories like you have never heard, talk about the most taboo subjects with knowledge and conviction. We'll make you laugh and bind groups together. We are not vacuous or patronising. We're warm, understanding and honest. We share our lived experiences.
Discussing the most current and up to date online safety topics, parents and carers will leave feeling educated and empowered, with a lot of practical information that they can immediately apply to their daily lives.
The Q&A time at the end really provided them an opportunity to personalise the evening and gain beneficial information to suit their individual needs.
This information evening is open to all EAC parents and will be provided free of charge thanks to the Friends of EAC. The session will be held in the Ezzy Centre and will run from 6pm-7.30pm. This is a parent only event.

Year 8 Retreat
On Wednesday this week the Year 8 cohort travelled to St Andrew’s Anglican Church in Lismore for their Year 8 Retreat. Led by Rev Sal, this was an excellent day full of reflection and worship. The students were very interested to learn about the history and symbols found in the architecture of the space and they participated respectfully in the Communion Service with the regular parishioners for the Wednesday morning service.
In the afternoon, students were able to reflect on their individuality through the creation of stone mandalas, prayer flags and mosaics which demonstrated how each student brings their own unique qualities to make up the whole collaborative group.
Secondary Social
On Thursday evening the Secondary School celebrated the first school social for the year, organised by the Student Representative Council. The Secondary Disco had the theme ‘Blast from the Past’ and was a fantastic celebration with food, music and dancing aplenty. It was great to see the Ezzy Centre decorated and students enjoying the fun. What a great way to celebrate Semester 1 of 2022 and we look forward to hosting more school socials later in the year.

HSC History Study Day
On Friday 17 June, the students from Year 12 Ancient History, Modern History and Extension History travelled to Coffs Harbour with myself to attend the HSC History Study Day. They attended a variety of different lectures presented by experts who provided advice and direction on how to approach the Trial and HSC Examinations (which are fast approaching). The students finished the day feeling very inspired and keen to take on the challenges ahead.
A wonderful day was had by all and the students were excellent ambassadors for the College.

Primary Update
Here Comes the Sun
How wonderful the winter sun has been over the past few weeks. The Primary students have enjoyed running free once again on the ovals at break times and the extra space provided thanks to the reduced numbers on the courts and in the undercover areas. It has certainly had a positive impact on the students as they are playing so happily during their breaks.
This week our Kindy students visited the Macadamia Castle and our Year 1 students travelled to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. It is great to see our students taking their learning out of the classrooms as they take advantage of these wonderful attractions. On Friday, our Year 3 students will visit Tropical Fruit World, always a highlight on the Year 3 calendar.
The students are looking forward to the Primary Disco next Thursday 30 June, with the Kindy – Year 3 disco running from 5-6pm and the Years 4-6 from 6:15-7:15pm. Don’t forget to pre-purchase your tickets and let us know if your EAC child needs care if you are also attending the Safe on Social evening (6-7:30pm in the Ezzy Centre). Due to the timing of the disco, we will not be serving food on the evening, so best to have a snack before you come to dance the night away!
Students can also look forward to the Years 5 and 6 Talent Show next week and the Inaugural Stage 3 Speechcraft House Cup on Tuesday. This is an exciting opportunity for students to develop the art and skills for public speaking and engaging an audience.
Canteen in Term 3
From the start of Term 3, Primary students will only be able to place an order from the canteen for the First Break. If students put in a Second Break order in error, the Canteen staff will supply it in the First Break. The cut off time for parents to order via the App will be 8.30am. The Canteen will still be able to be accessed in person by Years 1-6 at Second Break. We apologise for the inconvenience, however, this decision is to ensure an efficient Canteen service across the entire school each day.
Peer Support
Week 7
This week in Peer Support the children will discuss the importance of showing gratitude to others. Children are encouraged to reflect on the positive aspects of their lives, including people. The activities will give the children an opportunity to thank someone who has helped them. During the week encourage your child to appreciate and thank the people in their lives.
