"Be compassionate as God is compassionate. Do not judge and you will not be judged; do not condemn and you will not be condemned; and grant pardon and you too will be pardoned."
Luke 6:36-37
From The Principal
A huge congratulations to the Primary and Secondary SRC students for their organisation of the ‘crazy sock day’, to collect food items for families impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. The response from students and staff was wonderful and an enormous number of non-perishable items were collected. These items have been delivered to St Andrews Anglican Parish, Lismore for distribution to families who have reached out to the parish for help during the Covid-19 pandemic. Special thanks to Mrs Amanda Middleton, Director of the Secondary School, for coordinating the items and transporting them to Lismore.
I was particularly heartened by the desire of the SRC and broader student body to arrange and participate in the initiative which was focused on giving something back and centred on the needs of others. Sadly, a number of events both at home and abroad in the last few weeks have highlighted that we have a long way to go in terms of respecting, valuing and honouring all people and cultures. The Secondary School Chapel Service this week will have a strong justice focus as we explore the challenges of prejudice and discrimination and look for ways to build understanding, compassion and respect. I want to thank those students who are working with Rev Sally to bring this topic to life in the service and working to raise awareness about how we can all contribute to a world that genuinely values all people.
Thank you to all students and staff for a seamless transition back to full time face to face learning. All our students appeared happy to be back and able to reconnect with their friends and teachers as they resumed their normal routines. At the Executive meeting this week we will discuss the possibility of reinstating the extra curricular program, excursions and camps for the start of the second semester.

Off the Deputy's Desk
Our Year 10 students have recently been involved in an introduction to the Natural Ability Testing process. They will have time to then complete the battery of online tests and receive personalised online feedback. Normally the presenters would visit the school and workshop the students and deliver feedback but COVID-19 has forced them to find a new way of delivering feedback. The Natural Ability Test does not predict that a student will be a successful entrepreneur, television celebrity, doctor, journalist or sportsperson. Career success is far too complex and is impacted upon by a variety of external factors that can make a person make a choice at the fork in the road. For our Year 10 students the time to make choices and decisions is looming closer.
The rules of thumb for choosing subjects are as follows:
- Choose what you are good at and this will assist you to develop academic confidence. There is nothing worse than choosing a subject that is beyond your level of academic capability.
- Do what you enjoy as it is a long 2 years studying subjects that don’t fit with your areas of interest and ability.
- Choose subjects that articulate into your chosen areas of interest in terms of future career aspirations. Make sure that you have university pre requisites covered.
- Talk to a significant adult and gain insights and advice but don’t let them make the decision for you.
- Set SMART goals for your academic aspirations. Simple-Measurable-Achievable-Realistic-Timeframe
We look forward to sharing this journey with our Year 10 students and supporting them hopefully to make a wise and considered decision. Use of Natural Ability Testing data is one but not the only method of data collection that students can use to assist them in this process.
Reminders
Bus Departures
Buses leave at their allotted times so please remind your child to be out at the bus waiting area straight away after school. They are dismissed with plenty of time to spare.
Uniform
There seems to be a trend of students wearing non regulation jumpers, hoodies etc. to school. Students will be asked to remove these as they are not part of our uniform expectations. Undershirts that are visible are also not allowed and students will be asked to remove these as well. The College’s uniform policy allows for the jumper or the new soft shell jacket to be worn with school uniform. Your support is needed with regards to this.
Canteen
Canteen is still operating on an order only system for the rest of this term.
Hats
Even when the weather is cooler you can still get burned. Please ensure that your child does not leave home without their hat.

Primary Update
This week's online assembly focused on Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day. Students in the Primary worked with the theme of the week "In this together" and completed a variety of activities throughout the week to mark this important date in the national calendar.
The following is an article written by Thomas Bazar in Year 5, recounting his experiences during Reconciliation Week.
In class we have been talking about how we could celebrate Mabo Day. My Dad and I made some Torres Strait Islander Bush Scones for my class to enjoy on the 3rd June. This day is significant because the judges in the High Court of Australia decreed that Terra Nullius was not true and that Indigenous Australians could claim for Native Title.

SRC Crazy Sock Day
The SRC held a Crazy Sock Day on Thursday 4 June. Students were invited to wear their crazy socks to school with their uniform. The SRC asked for donations of non-perishable food items and were inundated with food that was sent to restock the food pantry at Lismore Anglicans.
Year 5 Greenhouses
You may have seen the hive of activity each morning as our Year 5 students attend to their greenhouses. Amelia Atkinson in 5C has shared her learning experiences for this week's newsletter.
This term, Year 5 have been making greenhouses. While building them, we learnt about measurement, how far down to plant each seed and what time of year to plant them. We learnt to collaborate our ideas and creations to help one another. We also learnt about the use of a greenhouse. A greenhouse protects the seedlings from strong winds, cold temperatures and pests. It also enables a healthy living environment for the seedlings to grow.

Crazy Sock Day Success
The school was covered in colour on Thursday 4 June as students in both the primary and secondary school embraced the opportunity to wear a pair of colourful socks and donate to charity.
Over 20 boxes of food items were packed by the SRC representatives and presented to the Anglican Parish of Lismore Rector Christian Ford and the Church Wardens on Tuesday 9 June by the SRC President Lara Truman and the Community Engagement Officer Grace Killingbeck.
Thank you to the school community for engaging in the first SRC event for 2020. We look forward to holding a number of other events throughout the year.

Our Friend Amber
Amber has been at our school for about three months now and has helped a lot of students, including us, by bringing joy and happiness when we are bombarded by problems. She is such a happy fuzz ball that we wanted to give back to her in our own way by drawing her.
So we had this idea, if Amber was a person, what would she look like?
We did drawings together for a couple of days and decided to draw Amber as a Year 6 student. We also came up with these traits and hobbies that we thought suited her:
She would have a unique sense of style,
She would love to dance and do sport,
She would be very kind and caring,
She would be quite "popular",
She would live off Maccas thickshakes,
She would be a consistent "B" student, and
She would play the flute in the school band.
All in all, we love you Amber!
