"In short, there are three things that last: faith, hope and love; and the greatest of these is love."
1 Corinthians 13:13
From The Principal
There has been much excitement and fervour across the College this week as we have launched the Festival of Music to celebrate the many musical talents of our students and taken the opportunity to rekindle public performances. On Monday evening the opening concert was held with performances by both the Mezzo Band and the Emmanuel College Band. Over 200 parents and guests were wonderfully entertained by the quality of the performance, the breadth of repertoire and the enthusiasm with which the students played. The concert was thoroughly enjoyed by all, especially the students who have been starved of the opportunity to perform over the last two years.
The week long event also includes the ‘Day of Young Talent’ where students who are involved in the tuition program can demonstrate their music skills. The Winter Concert when our Primary Bands have an opportunity to share their talent, a band and choir competition and a final Concert Finale to round out the week. What a week!
Congratulations to all the students involved in the performances. Special thanks to all of the parents who have attended performances and given the students an audience to play for and most importantly, thank you and congratulations to the dedicated and inspirational music team, led so ably by Mr Adam Holmes. It is fantastic to have live music performances, celebrating the students' talent, back at EAC.
Although we have just reached the midpoint of the College year, preparations for 2023 are well underway with Term 2 traditionally being a very important time for enrolments, particularly for Year 5 and Year 7 for the following year. As part of the transition process, the College has developed an Experience Day Program. Experience Days are designed to help make the transition from one setting to the next as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for students and families. They help ease the students into the new setting and give them time to prepare themselves for the move from either early learning to primary school or from primary to secondary school. Students have a chance to experience a day in the new setting, ask questions and make new friends, all of which will help reduce their anxiety and support them during these very significant times in their educational journey. We have been running these programs for a number of years and the feedback from students and families is always very positive.
The first Experience Day for Year 7, 2023 took place this week with 96 students being involved in a series of taster lessons as well as an orientation session. It was a very positive experience for all involved and the students were really buzzing with excitement as they made their way home in the afternoon.
Soon we will invite students who will be joining Year 5, 2023 to spend some time with Year 4 to get a feel for the College, meet the teachers and make some new friends. Interviews for Kindergarten 2023 will commence in the coming weeks and they will have their first Experience Day early in Term 3.
Once again, I invite all our parents to join us for the Friends of EAC Annual General Meeting next Tuesday 7 June at 6.30pm in the Ezzy Centre. With the restrictions and lockdowns of the last two years behind us, we are looking for a new team of parents to take the baton from the existing leadership team and drive the initiatives and activities of Friends over the next two years. There are lots of ways to help and get involved and they do not all require parents to attend every monthly meeting. Please come along, say hello and let us know what your talent or interest is and I am sure we can make some suggestions as to how you can help.

I was fortunate to be able to spend time with the Year 10 Food Technology students this week as, under the guidance of our resident Chef Ben McRae, they created gourmet sausage rolls as well as lemon myrtle cheesecakes. In an era of convenience food, there was an air of satisfaction as they displayed their creations. To come from a point where most of the students had never attempted anything so challenging in the kitchen to get to the end product that they were so proud of, was a delight to observe. There was lots of careful chopping and sautéing of onions, garlic and thyme and you can imagine what the kitchen looked like at the end of the cooking session; however, cleaning up was also part of the learning experience.
Good pedagogy linking real world experiences with teaching and learning opportunities is the cornerstone of the EAC Strategic Plan for 2030. In a world where adolescents often find their actions so restricted, they embraced the opportunity to test their boundaries and creatively test their culinary skills. The best part is that they can never say when asked that they don’t know how to cook….or do the dishes!
This week our Festival of Music has seen a multitude of talent on stage in The Lindsay Walker Centre. The Day of Young Talent on Tuesday saw a series of solos, duets, ensembles and rock bands perform. The adjudicators Mr Cleverley and Mrs Crozier were delighted at the high standard of the performances and the fun the students had performing on stage. Thanks to Mr Holmes and the music department, this is the beginning of a great tradition for the new multi-purpose centre, enabling families to come and share in the life of EAC.

Sports Update
Bill Turner Cup
Monday 23 May was the day the Under 15s boys finally got an opportunity to play their second round of Bill Turner Cup Football. This game was nearly 4 weeks in the making due to a number of short notice postponements. The game was finally able to be played in the modified form of a Futsal match against Steiner Shearwater. Although a completely different format, our boys all showed maturity and resilience in selecting their best futsal team. This was truly a team effort in the sense that the whole team was actively involved either on the court or off the court showing many of our College values. In a new (last minute) format that leveled the teams to five on five, the boys were able to hold off a fast finishing individual performance from Shearwater to hold on to the win. The man of the match was our keeper Connor Redden who pulled off some miraculous saves. A big thank you to Mr Murphy for accompanying and organising the boys on the bus and venue and to Mr Davy for his organisational support and photography on the day.
Secondary News
Reconciliation Week
This week the College celebrated Reconciliation Week with a Secondary Assembly. The Year 6 students were invited along and learnt about the importance of Reconciliation week and the theme ‘Be Brave and Make Change’. All students were encouraged to think about how they could help to change views and support the first nation people. Each PC group reflected on Reconciliation week by bringing a hand to the front of assembly to create a Sea of Hands which is on display in the Wellbeing space.
During Wellbeing, the Year 12 students spent time using the Aboriginal Meditation practice of Dadirii. Deep listening is a process of deep and respectful listening to build community. It is a way of encouraging people to explore and learn from the ancient heritage of Aboriginal culture, knowledge and understanding.
Advance Notice: Secondary SRC Social
The Secondary SRC students have been busily preparing for the first social of 2022. This social will be the first in over two years and will be held on June 23 between 6-9pm. The theme is ‘Blast from the Past’. Tickets will be on sale soon. They are priced at $5 per person.
Year 7 Experience Day
On Wednesday 1 June there were many excited and nervous students who entered The Lindsay Walker Centre for the first Year 7 Experience Day for the cohort of 2023. Students were placed in five groups and were supported by current Year 10 students who will be their peer support leaders in 2023. Students participated in a range of lessons including Art, Maths, English, PE and HSIE throughout the day. This was a great opportunity for students to meet each other and gain an understanding of what Secondary school is like.

Primary SRC News
The SRC are busy preparing for the 2022 EAC's Got Talent. This year they are spreading out the shows to allow more acts from the kids. Years 1 and 2 will be held next week, Week 7 on Tuesday 7 June with Years 3 and 4 on Wednesday 8 June. If your child has a video they would like to show, please email this video to me wcross@eac.nsw.edu.au or send it to school on a USB stick. If they simply require backing tracks, the SRC will ask them what Youtube clip they require this week in class and have it ready for them on the day.
The talent show is all about fun and giving it a go. The audience is made up of their peers who wish to attend during the First Break (and Second Break if it goes over). Whilst they will be encouraged to perform, if nerves get the better of them and students decide to pull out on the day, that is fine.
Three weeks later, they will hold the Year 5 show on Tuesday 28 June with Year 6 on Wednesday 29 June. All students need to do to sign up is fill out the sign on sheet in their classrooms.
Peer Support
Week 4
This week in Peer Support the children will practise developing their strengths. This will help your child to become more resilient and optimistic. Ask your child to share the strengths they identified during this week’s session.

Online Canteen Ordering
We are excited to be able to offer online Canteen ordering via the 'School Stream' app. View and select from the canteen menu by clicking on Canteen. This will bring up the canteen order form where you will be able to enter the child's details and select desired items from the dropdown lists under the relevant headings and pay. You will be prompted to tick which break you require your selection for.
All online orders must be completed and submitted prior to 8.45am on the day they are required, to enable Canteen staff enough time to prepare and distribute orders.
Manual Canteen Ordering
If you are unable to use the 'School Stream' App please place the money in a paper bag of sufficient size to fit all of the items. If you are ordering a drink with your child’s lunch, please provide two (2) bags. Please write the information on the LOWER half of the bag. If money is short we will substitute items to the value received.
