Term 1 | Week 3 | 15 February 2017
“You didn’t choose me, but I chose you. I have appointed you to produce fruit that will last. Love each other. This is what I’m commanding you to do."
From The Principal
Thank you to all of the parents and friends who joined staff and students at our Whole College Chapel Service this week to pray for God’s blessing on the 2017 College year. As part of the service we inducted the 2017 Primary Student Captains and Primary House Captains into office. The student leaders were called upon to support the College community as we strive to become an Anglican educational community inspiring learning, living and leading. In response the student leaders made the following pledge:
As the elected leaders of the student body we acknowledge and accept the privilege and responsibility that comes with the office we undertake. We pledge to undertake this office with generosity, commitment and integrity; to use our God given gifts to serve the staff, students and friends of the Emmanuel Anglican College Community and to call on the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit to ensure that all that we do is done in God’s name.
We look forward with much anticipation to working with these fine young men and women for the good of the College Community in the coming year.

Last week, Year 7 ventured to Evans Head for the 2017 Year 7 Orientation Camp. The camp is a great opportunity for the group to build an identity, get to know to another a little better and to develop their independence and self confidence. The students were involved in a range of activities including canoeing, surfing and chapel swing challenge. I am sure the comradery developed over the three days will form a solid foundation for great things in the future. I thank Mrs Heidi Miller, Mr Justin Cleverly, Mr Tim Jarrett and Miss Kellie Guest for the generosity, leadership, energy and enthusiasm in providing this great experience for Year 7.
See some great photos in the gallery below.
Thank you to the following parents who have generously offered to undertake the role of class parents for Kindergarten – Year 6. This is a very important role in helping build our College community. A key role of the class parent is to find ways and opportunities to build connections between families in the class and also between families and the College. This is particularly important for helping our new families fell welcome. To help build a communication network, later this week we will be in contact asking parents if they are happy for us to share either an email address of phone number with other families in the year. Our Class Parents for 2017 are:

Communication between parents and teachers
As we move into the school year there will be times when you need to communicate with your child’s teacher, and vice versa. The College Planner is a great place to start. Teachers will often use the Planner as a means of getting a short message to you. They will ask that you sign the note to confirm that you have received the message. College Planners should be signed by parents and class/PC teachers each week. Signing the Planner is a wonderful opportunity for you to see what your child has for homework, what assessment is due, and what is coming up in the near future.
Teachers can also be contacted by email. All teachers have a College email address which they check regularly. If you contact a teacher via email please be mindful that their working days are quite long, often including duties and meetings in addition to their teaching lessons. It may not always be possible for them to respond immediately, however, they will respond in a timely manner.
If you would like to talk to a teacher you may be able to contact them through the office, or you can make an appointment.
Friends of Emmanuel
On Tuesday 14 March 2017 Friends will be holding their Annual General Meeting. We invite all parents and carers to attend this important meeting to vote in a new committee for 2017. This annual meeting is a great opportunity to also learn a little more about Friends of EAC and meet some new people. It is important to mention here that parents and carers will not be made to feel pressured to take on an official role. However, we do require a minimum number to ensure a quorum at our AGM in order for decisions to be made, so please try to come along if you can - and see what Friends is all about!
