Term 1 | 25 January 2017
"You must love your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself."
Happy New Year! I hope this note finds you well and you have had a lovely Christmas and an enjoyable summer break. I hope all our students are enthusiastic about returning to the College and are looking forward to a happy and successful year.
Once again, the College has enjoyed strong enrolment demand and will start the College year rapidly approaching 600 enrolments from Kindergarten to Year 12. We look forward to welcoming all of the new students and their families as we commence another exciting year.
New Teaching Staff
There are a number of people joining the teaching team in 2017 and we welcome Mr Thomas Papworth (Learning Support), Mrs Daniela Payne (Physics and junior Science), Mrs Jess Raguse (English), Mrs Michelle Anderson (Learning Support Assistant) and Mrs Wendy Finlay (Learning Support Assistant). We also welcome back Mrs Eva Brown (Drama and English) and Ms Joanna Macpherson (Primary). Each of these people bring with them many gifts and talents and I am sure they will prove to be great assets to the College.
A great deal of work has taken place over the term break to enhance the learning environment and I am sure the students will be delighted with the additions that have taken place. Stage 2 of the primary play area has been completed with the addition of a large sand play area. The L Block has been refurbished with new paint, carpet and blinds. New furniture will also be added later in the term. The learning spaces upstairs in the Joan Pickup Library have also been refurbed with the old movable wall been replaced by glass walls. Library Seminar Room 3 has been converted into a ‘Maker Space’ and will become a specialist STEM (Science, technology, engineering and maths) room and will be a centre for robotics and other similar initiative. All students across the College will have access to this learning space.
Phase one of the ELC outdoor area redevelopment has taken place, with extensions to the play area, a new deck and some new landscaping having taken place. Later in the term we will install new play equipment, a water play area and soft fall. Work will begin shortly on the new multipurpose hard courts near the Ezzy Centre as we are just awaiting the Development Application to be approved. Plans are well underway for the refurbishment of three classrooms in the ST Building into a third Science Lab, a Senior Common Room as well as the addition of some student welfare offices. I am also pleased to say that we have formally commenced the process to build Stage 2 of the Primary Classroom project and submitted a grant application expression of interest.
Parent Welcome and Information Evening
I have attached a full list of important dates for the coming term and highlight the Parent Welcome and Information Evening on Thursday 2 February as an event I would encourage all our parents to attend. I look forward to seeing you throughout what I am sure will be another wonderful term of learning, achievement and celebration.
