HISTORY
Emmanuel Anglican College, Ballina - or
EAC, as the College is often referred to, was created as an Anglican
College within the Diocese of Grafton. It has a strong Christian
intent within the Anglican tradition. It is part of the network of
Anglican Colleges within the Diocese – Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar
School on the Tweed, Clarence Valley Anglican School in Grafton,
Bishop Druitt College in Coffs Harbour and St Columba Anglican School
at Port Macquarie. From humble beginnings of 16 students and located
in a small conference centre - Gunundi at East Ballina - in 1998, the
College has grown rapidly. The College has moved to a large attractive
green-fields site with substantial state of the art buildings.
Our College provides classes
from Pre Kindy to Year 12.
The College enjoys an
excellent local reputation and is fast becoming a centre of academic
and pastoral excellence for families of the Northern Rivers of NSW.
MANAGEMENT
The College is governed, as are all
Anglican Colleges, within the Diocese of Grafton by a Council. The
Council has the responsibility for oversight of the College with the
operational details delegated to the Principal. The Principal and
Business Manager are ex officio members of the Council.
The Bishop of
the Diocese of Grafton is the President of the Council, and chairs all
meetings if he is in attendance. He also appoints a representative,
who is a permanent member of the Council. Council elects its own
Chairperson, currently Dr Christopher Jambor.
The Council has
three persons being parents or guardians of students of the College -
Dr Jambor is from this membership group. Other representatives are
members of the community who support the aims of the College. All
appointments are enunciated in the College Constitution.
There is currently one
permanent sub-committee - the Finance Committee. Additionally, there
are temporarily convened committees to consider the College's plan and
future directions in education, building and marketing of other
programmes as required.
The Diocesan Schools’
Commission (DSC) provides a forum for shared experiences with the
like-minded Colleges and provides us with a collective voice in
representing the needs of Anglican Colleges in the North Coast area .

THE ENVIRONMENT
Emmanuel Anglican College is a
co-educational College in the Anglican tradition providing a
curriculum programme that challenges students' thinking and nurtures
their personal development. The College values its culture of
affirmation and self-discipline.
We do this by offering a
challenging, engaging curriculum in an environment which values
individuals, provides a positive collective identity and encourages
efforts with the same energy and results.
The programmes of this
College seek to deliver education that explores the breadth and depth
of the interests and needs of its students.
Our College programme also
includes a wide range of co-curricular opportunities to develop
personal attributes and skills in our students. These opportunities
include sport, recreation, service and personal growth activities. We
develop opportunities for students to:
- Develop positive skills and attitudes
towards recreation
- Learn skills for accreditation in a
variety of areas eg.
-First Aid Certificate
- Life Saving levels of achievement
- Experience community service leading
towards the Queen's Award or Duke of Edinburgh Awards
- Take part in public speaking and debating
- Have access to academic extension and
interest clubs incorporating peer tutoring
The
instrumental music programme is seen as an important part of this
area.
Our involvement with North Coast Sports Association (NCSA) provides a
pathway for our students to compete in Regional, State and National
level sporting competitions.
Our mission is
expressed as:
“A
co-educational College companioning young people
to positive independence within the Anglican tradition.”

build a College community which benefits from the interactions of a
group with varying interests and abilities as represented in the wider
community.
At Emmanuel Anglican College
we put a great deal of value on nurturing students to success as we
believe that children who feel happy at the College, are supported in
their ability, and can see themselves as a valued part of a positive
team, are going to be the ones nearing their achievement potential. As
a result, over the last few years the College School has been
implementing, evaluating and modifying a range of programmes in order
to develop an innovative programme that best caters for the wide range
of abilities that we have within both the Primary School and the
Secondary School. These incorporate best practice pedagogy and produce
an environment where all students feel safe, secure, supported and
valued.
PARENTS
Our geographic reach for students
extends from west of Lismore, north to Brunswick Heads, and south to
Broadwater. The majority of our families are drawn from the Ballina,
Alstonville and Lennox Head areas, with 67% of families from these
townships.
An open door policy means
that we are well supported by our parents, not only in the classroom
but also with assistance at sporting and other College activities .
The College actively
encourages partnership between parents and the College through seeking
to involve parents (and often grandparents) in a range of day-to-day
activities including listening to children read, assisting with sport,
PE, visual arts, craft and music, assisting in the canteen and through
their involvement from time to time in evening and weekend activities
organised by the College or our Parent and Friends Association, the
Friends of Emmanuel.
Our Friends of Emmanuel
Anglican College Association, "Friends", is working strongly
to support the College's goals.
